The Greater Accra Yoruba Community have distributed food to some Nigerians and the less privileged in Accra New Town, Lapaz, Achimota, Mile 7, Ablekuma, Tema, Ashaiman and Teshie.
The gesture is to help ease their burden in the wake of the partial lockdown in some parts of the country, which is being enforced to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Speaking to Ghanaian Voice in Accra, the President of the Greater Accra Yoruba Community, Amb. Oloye Oyeyemi Fatuyi FIIM, explained that they were touched by the plight of the starving citizenery hence the gesture.
He added that their members and the Nigerian community as a whole were starving in the wake of the lockdown due to their inability to go out for their daily activities.
Amb. Oloye Oyeyemi Fatuyi FIIM expressed appriciation to the government and the people of Ghana for steps taken to curtail the spread of the Covid-19.
He also encouraged other Nigerian communities and all our social clubs to emulate the gesture of the leadership of the Greater Accra Yoruba Community as All Nigerian Community(ANC) and Nigerians In Diaspora Organization(NIDO-GH) leadership will not be able to take care of this responsibility alone.
“It is high time we all come out and forge one formidable COVID-19 RELIEF RESPONSE TEAM to take care of our compatriots in serious need of help at the moment”. Amb. Oloye Oyeyemi Fatuyi FIIM added.
Amb. Oloye Oyeyemi Fatuyi FIIM noted that many of their members and compatriots are still in need of foodstuffs, sanitary such as bathing soaps, toiletries medicine among others.
He therefore urged their notable members in society and Nigerian community at large to come to our aid.
Amb. Oloye Oyeyemi Fatuyi FIIM also thanked the National President of the Yoruba Community in Ghana, Oloye Musa Baba, the Chairman of Restructuring Committee, Alhaji EL- Aziz Fatau and all the elders in Council and Board of Trustees for their supports and always seeking the welfare of the people in the various communities.
The Secretary of the Greater Accra Yoruba Community, Hon. Bola Akinsanya reiterated the call on the corporate companies to as a matter of urgency activate their Corporate Social Responsibility for the sake of humanity.
“We pray for the peace of this land and the peace of the world at large. May Almighty God heal our land”. He added.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Greater Accra Yoruba Community for the gesture.
