Hon Haruna Iddrisu’s revelation on Citi TV has opened up fresh discussions on the intent to create some new constituencies. Is it necessary or a waste of tax payers money, and don’t ask me if it is the EC or the NPP that will create it if you live in Ghana.
This piece will concentrate on the region he predicted may have eleven(11) out of the twenty five seats. The obvious seat on top of my mind that deserves one is *SALL* Santrokofi, Akpafo, Lolobi and Likpe . Let’s see where the other twenty four(24) will come from.
Currently, the most populous and the largest region in Ghana is the greater Accra region with 34 constituencies. The second largest is the Ashanti region with 47 constituencies, meaning 7 more constituencies above the largest and the most populous. Something must be wrong .
New constituencies are always created out of existing ones by splitting large ones into 2 or 3 in some cases. So let’s see the currently large ones that may be considered for splitting.
Currently, the largest constituency is Dome Kwabenya followed by Ashaiman and Amasaman all in Accra. This is followed by Awutu Senya East (Kasoa), Adentan, Madina, Ledzokuku, Trobu and ketu South
This means, eight (8) out of the first ten largest constituencies can be found in greater Accra with Central and Volta regions having one each.
If indeed, they have planned to create 25 more seats, then it will be fair to look at the next 10 populous constituencies.
The next set of ten(10) comprises of Prestea Huni-Valley, Anyaa Sowutuom, Kwabere East, Tarkwa Nsuem, Kpone Katamanso,Techiman South, Tema West, Ablekuma Central, La Dadekotopon and Ablekuma North.
This set of ten again has greater Accra leading with six(6) constituencies, followed by Western region with the other two(2) from Bono East and Ashanti region.
Let me conclude with the next set of ten(10) constituencies likely in size and population that need to be considered. You may then make your own deduction and judgement.
Tamale South leads this set followed by Atwima Kwanwoma, Weija Gbawe, Sunyani East, Bortiano-Ngleshi Amanfrom, Gomoa East, Oforikrom, Odododiodio, Ayawaso West wuogon and Ejisu.
Again, the Greater Accra leads this set with the four most populous constituencies ,followed by Ashanti region with 3 and Bono region, Central Region and Northern region with 1 each.
The pattern is not different from the next fifty(50) constituencies. Starts with Ho Central, Tema East, Asawase, Afigya Kwabere South, Krowor, Korle Klottey, Ningo Prampram, Amenfi East, so on and so fourth.
The judgment remains yours and not mine.
The plan to create new constituencies was birthed immediately Nana Addo was sworn in on the 7th of January 2017. The creation of the new regions was followed almost immediately with the demand for a new chamber to take care of future expansion. The design, for your information was even ready before the arguments started, courtesy, Nana Addo’s special architect, the one and only designer of God’s residence (NATIONAL CATHEDRAL).
For now, i have my fingers and legs crossed waiting for the proposal the Electoral commissioner will be directed by Nana Addo to present.
My heart however goes to the people of *S.A.L.L* for this injustice forced down your throat. The NPP will never do this to their people. Let’s know them for who they are. Let’s keep hope alive, there will definitely be better days for us .
