A Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) known as CARE for Free and Fair Elections, Ghana (CARE GHANA) has petitioned United Nations, UN indicating they cannot trust the Jean Adukwei Mensah and Dr. Bossman Asare led Electoral Commission, EC to deliver a credible elections in Ghana.
The copy of the petition sighted by THE REPUBLIC, stated the posture, actions and utterances of the EC Boss Jean Mensah is working for the ruling NPP government instead of the entirety of Ghanaians people.
According to the Secretary of the CARE GHANA, David Kumi Addo the conduct and posture of Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare posture and the kind of respect to the Eminent Advisory Committee is placing the country on a time bomb.
He further alleged the EC Advisory Committee is set up to rather protect the image of EC instead to advice the Commission to do what would help protect and sustain the peaceful co-existance of Ghanaians in the country.
The Secretary of CARE GHANA disclosed the consistency with which the Electoral Commission Bosses keep changing their reasons to change the IT infrastructure and intend to go for entirely new voters register have eroded the credibility of the electoral Commission and the trust Ghanaians should have for Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare.
Below Is the full statement.
PETITION TO INTERVENE IN THE IMPASSE BETWEEN THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION ON ONE HAND AND CSOS AND POLITICAL PARTIES ON THE OTHER HAND ON THE ISSUE OF COMPILING A NEW VOTERS REGISTER
CARE for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (“CARE” – GHANA) is a non-aligned and non-partisan Civil Society Organization that stands for Election Accountability, Good Governance, Free, Fair, Credible and Transparent Elections that will be acceptable to all political parties and stakeholders in our electoral process.
Our vision is, but not limited to inspire New Hope for a Credible, Free, Fair and Transparent elections in December 2020 and beyond.
“CARE” GHANA has monitored the space over the period the issue of a new voters register surfaced, and per the outcomes of engagements we believe that if you don’t intervene the peace and stability Ghanaians have enjoyed so far may be compromised.
We doubt if the Electoral Commission is capable of resolving this challenge owing to the conduct and the entrenched position it has taken. We acknowledge the role you have played to help this nation and Africa enjoy the peace and stability we have.
It will be detrimental to seat aloof and watch your gains go waist if you don’t intervene to help protect the peace and tranquility achieved through your effort, support and interventions.
The consistency with which the EC keeps shifting the goal posts on the reasons it need to compile a new voters register has eroded the credibility of our electoral body and evaporated the trust Ghanaians have for it therefore the call for your intervention.
The most disturbing aspect in this matter is commentaries from Mrs. Jean Mensah the EC Chairperson and Dr. Bossman Asare EC Deputy Chairperson including the entrenched position taken by the EC on one hand and on another hand quite a significant number of Civil Society Organizations and some political parties including the main opposition party.
Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana “CARE” GHANA is calling on you as a developing partner who has a stake and a higher interest in our peace.
David Kumi Addo Secretary of CARE GHANA.
