The Ada West Police Command has on Wednesday evening burned to ashes, a suspected money ritual coffin at the Sege Police Station.
The interior of coffin which was found in a nearby forest at the outskirt of the Sege township was decoration with red lining and bottles with unknown contents believed to be concoctions.
It also had in it, money sized papers inscripted with 500 US dollars with names of commercial and national banks of Ghana and some neighbouring countries written on them.
The police after receiving the information and went to see the object invited men of God and traditional authorities including the Chief if Sege who came to perform the necessary ritual for the coffin to be destroyed.
The station officer of the Sege police station, Chief Inspector Aquaye who supervised burning of the coffin in interview with Ghanaian Voice said the police are yet to arrest anyone in connection and also, found nothing incriminating about the said coffin and so went ahead to burn it.
Chief Inspector Aquaye to this end called on the residents to volunteer information to the police leading to the arrest of the characters behind the alleged ritual coffin.
The Chief of Sege, Nene Dameh Agbewornu who represented the traditional authorities to witness the event tells Ghanaian Voice that they were surprised at what they saw since the community has never witnessed such a thing in the centuries of its existence.
He therefore allayed the fears of residents, particularly strangers who might feel unsafe with the incident, saying the traditional authorities will do everything possible to ensure that the ugly incident does not reoccur in the community.
Contrary to the appeal to the public for a lead resulting in the arrest of persons responsible for the coffin in question, further check by atinkaonline reveals that the police have a clue but are not interested in pursuing the issue.
