Leading members of the Nigerian’s opposision party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, chapter in Ghana has expressed their displeasure over the comments made by All Progressives Congress, APC, canidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the Palace of the Awujale.
They discribed it as unfortunate and condemned the choice of APC’s candidate and called for the total condemnation by all Nigerians.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was on record saying “there are only five recognised Obas in Yoruba land leaving the likes of Ooni of Ife, Owa Obokun and Ewi of Ado Ekiti and other great Kings in Yorubaland”.
In a statement issued and signed in Accra by the Vice Chairman of the PDP in Ghana PDP Ghana Chapter condemns APC’s candidate saying; is totally unwarranted, condemnable and distorting facts about Yoruba people.
He expressed disappointment on the statement of a topmost Yoruba son like Tinubu, stressing that though, he may want to score mark to attract people but as a Yoruba leader, he should know the kind of statement to make.
Amb. Oloye Fatuyi who he is a traditionalist said Tinubu too knows that Yorubas honour their traditional leaders.
Quoting Tinubu statement, “”You are not part of the useless Obas in Yorubaland who will sell out, we know them and it is not yet time to mention names. In Yorubaland today, you are the best monarch and that is not contestable.
The good Obas’ in Yorubaland, who are forthright, firm and stand by the truth are not up to five, they are just three. Oba Awujale, Oba Akiolu and another leaving the likes of Ooni of Ife, Owa Obokun and Ewi of Ado Ekiti and other great Kings in Yorubaland.
We at PDP in Ghana considered this a serious insult to our highly reffered royal institution”.
The PDP chieftain said Atiku Abubakar who is only related to Yoruba by marriage will not say such to the Yoruba Obas.
“We sincerely reject the statement and call on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinnubu to tender an apology to Yoruba Royal Institution”.
Amb. Oloye Fatuyi further said if a candidate could be insulting Yorubas when he is yet to be elected, what will he say to them when he assumes office as number one citizen of the country. He queried?
Amb. Oloye Fatuyi therefore called on Nigerians to watch before deciding on any candidate in the upcoming 2023 election.
He said the unity of Nigeria should be Paramount to all of us and not destroy an established institution as Tinubu has done.
Amb. Oloye Fatuyi further cautioned against those that believe riches and wealth supercede royalty should think again.
“Our throne is sacred and no politician should try to blackmail our royal fathers to support his desperate ambitions.
Asiwaju Tinubu’s insult will be a lesson to those who ear beads to go and beg him for money or favour”. He added.
