Need For National Tripartite Commttee To Meet – GFL

The Ghana Federation of Labour, GFL, is appealing to the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to convene an emergency meeting of the National Tripartite Committee to intervene in the position taken by the Controller and Accountant General asking all government breadwinners to register with the National Identification Authority, NIA, or forfeit their salaries from December 1, 2021.

The GFL has also asked the Committee to urgently exercise it’s mandate under section 113 of the Labour Act 2003 Act 651.

A statement signed by the Secretary General of the GFL, Abraham Koomson, said as a Labour Organisation legally mandated to protect the rights of hard working Ghanaians, they find it strange that the Controller and Accountant General Department, CAGD, has failed to engage Organised Labour for their views on strategies to clean the government payroll.

The statement further indicated that it is unfortunate as a member of the National Tripartite Committee is not privy to any detailed data suggesting the NIA has captured majority of Ghanaians considering the manner with which the mass registration exercise was carried out last year prior to the December elections.

According to the statement it is also interactive to more that the unilateral decision of the CAGD threatens industrial peace and harmony having sidelined critical stakeholders including the Trades Union.
