The National Democratic Congress salutes all workers belonging to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the
Trades Union Congress on the occasion of their quadrennial congress now ongoing at the Great Hall of the Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
The NDC, as a Social Democratic party, has always shared the values and aspirations of workers and, in particular, the NDC solidarises with the struggle of the GPRTU for fair treatment, the provision of adequate, modern roads
and stations, and a sensitive approach to the pricing of fuel and other consumables that drive the transport industry.
The NDC firmly believes that workers are entitled, as of right, to protection by the state and an equitable share of
the national cake.
The NDC is proud of its roots in the GPRTU as this labour union was birthed during the administration of the PNDC under the leadership and direction of the Founder of the NDC, HE Jerry John Rawlings. Accordingly, when the NDC
forms the next government, we promise to provide space for free and genuine negotiations with all stakeholders
in the transport sector to establish equitable transport fares, taxes, and fees that protect the interests of the
consumers without jeopardising the sustainability of the operations of service providers within the industry.
We further promise to eradicate the undue interferences by government in the election of leaders in the labour movement.
We believe that this is one sure way of making such leaders accountable to their members and also free to pursue the interests of their constituency, rather than serving the interests of government.
The NDC commends the GPRTU for its continued collaboration and the party urges the Union to firmly uphold its
values in order that they can continue to contribute to the development and progress of their fellow citizens and
Long live the GPRTU!
Long live the TUC!
Long live the NDC!
LONG LIVE GHANA
