Man Destroys Roof To Eject Tenants From Building At MacCarty Hill

Information available to this portal shows that Mr Frank Kofi Agyeman Prempeh who is claiming ownership of a disputed land at McCarthy Hill in the Weija /Gbawe Municipality in the Greater Accra Region did the unthinkable when he sent people to go and destroy the roof of a four-bedroom apartment in an attempt to eject the tenants.

Mr Prempeh took the action without any court order or formal permission from any of the regulatory agencies of state.

The incident which happened on the 22nd day of March 2021, led to the removal of the roof of the four -bedroom apartment leaving the occupants of the room at the mercy of the weather.

The tenants, some National Security Operatives had the shock of their lives when they returned home from work to see the damaged caused to their place of abode.

This portal was told that the Chief of Ngleshie Lafa- Barima Nii Ayi Okufuobour I, who also doubles as the Weija Asafoatse made a report to the Weija Divisional Police Command when word got to him that some people were removing the roof to the building the Traditional Council has rented over on a five year term out of which the occupants have spent three(3) years out of the five.

The police moved to the house and arrested three (3) persons but were later granted bail.

Police investigations led to Mr. Frank Kofi Agyeman Prempeh as the one who contracted the three individuals to go and destroy the roof of the building because according to him the land belongs to him and all efforts made to have access to the land has proved difficult so he chose the unlawful option of having his concerns addressed.

At a meeting with representatives of the complainant, Nii Ayi Okufuobour, Mr Prempeh and the suspects in the office of Chief Inspector Quainoo, the Crime Officer, Felicia Fletcher-Ackon, the CID handling the case, Inspector Gladys Ackah on Tuesday 23rd March, Chief Inspector Quainoo stated categorically that Mr. Prempeh had no right to resort to such violent and clearly illegal methods for the recovery of the possession of, or for the ejectment from the premises of the tenants and said the Police will charge him for causing damage to property.

At the end of the meeting, Mr Prempeh was giving the option to either re roof the building and pursue his other matters with respect to the land upon which the building is situated since he claimed the land is his, he pleaded to be given three days to consult his lawyer and report back on Friday but failed to show up. According to the police they have prepared the docket to send the case to court for the court to rule on the matter.

The Traditional Authority have served notice that they won’t settle for any out of court settlement and would prefer the case goes to court for the adjudicating body to determine the truth or otherwise of the matter. Meanwhile another meeting has been scheduled for today Monday 29th 2021.
