Mahama Installed Development Chief In Western North

Former President John Dramani Mahama has, today [Thursday, February 20, 2020], been installed as a Development Chief at Proso Kofikrom in the Western North Region.

At a colourful durbar of the chiefs and people of the area, broadcast live on Facebook by WoezorTV, and monitored by, the Chief of the town, Nana Gyan Kofi II performed the installation ceremony.

In a speech before the installation ceremony, Nana Gyan Kofi II thanked former president Mahama for making the MP for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, a deputy minister in his government.

However, the chief appealed that, if the former president wins the 2020 election, he should try to make Honourable Akandoh a substantive minister.

The chief also lauded former president Mahama for bringing development to the area and appealed for more if he wins the 2020 election.

In his response, the former president thanked the chief and people of the area for the honour done him. He also thanked the people of the region, saying that they have always voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during elections.

He said all the developmental projects in the region were undertaken by successive NDC governments.

Comparing the NPP government to the erstwhile NDC government, former president Mahama said the NDC is far better.

Adding to that, he said that in the heat of the 2016 election campaigns, one candidate told the people to try him and see.

But, according the former president, after that person was given power, he has performed poorly. He thus said it was God who allowed Nana Akufo-Addo to be president, so that Ghanaians can compare the NPP government to the former regime of the NDC.

Continuing his speech, the former president said the NPP government had not increased the producer price for cocoa for three years, saying that, this year being an election year, the NPP government then decided to increase the producer price of cocoa by a paltry Ghc40.00, simply because they want votes.

He further expressed worry about the free cocoa fertilizer that the NPP government has now decided to sell to farmer, thus affecting cocoa farming. He promised that if he wins the 2020 elections, his government will again prioritise cocoa farming.

The former president further pledged to develop the Bonzai waterfall in the area into a tourist attraction site and also complete work on the roads in the region that have been abandoned by the current government.

Responding to the Chief’s appeal, former president Mahama said Honourable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh is a very hardworking MP who can be counted among the best 10 MPs in Parliament.

He pledged to appoint him as a substantive minister if he wins the 2020 elections which he said is supposed to be peaceful and without chaos.

He told the people to remember former president Kuffour’s advise that “hwe w’asetena mu na to aba pa.” To wit, consider your situation and vote well.

Finally, the former president introduced Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Juaboso Constituency in the 2020 elections, and again thanked the chief and people of the area.

The former president is currently touring the Western North Region as part of his “Speak Out Tour” announced by the NDC.
