Disregard Removal Of Nii Odai Ayiku IV’s Name From Register Of Chiefs – Nungua Asafoatse

The Asafoatse of Nungua Traditional Area, Nii Okuajeman has called on the indigenes of Nungua, the entire Ga community including decerning Ghanaians to treat with contempt news inspired by malice making rounds in sections of the media that Nkotoo Ablade Nii Odai Ayiku IV, Nungua Mantse’s, name has been removed from the register of the National House of Chiefs.

Nii Odai Ayiku IV, Nungua Mantse, according to Asafoatse was enstooled the legitimate chief of Nungua in the year 1958 during the Government of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP).

He said,”the Nungua Mantse is not dead nor has he been destooled or abdicated his role as the overlord of his jurisdiction hence still remain the chief of the Nungua state.

In the year 1983 during the revolutionary days, the Asafoatse explained that Nii Odai Ayiku IV, Nungua Mantse’s, life was threatened by hired gang to kill him.

This deadly situation compelled our Mantse to flee into exile with the support of some Ga chiefs led by the late Nana Otumfuor Opoku Ware, Asantehene after some misguided individuals with parochial and vested interest blackmailed him to leader of the revolution”.

The Asafoatse went on to show his heart felt gratitude to the Ga Chiefs and the late Nana Otumfuor Opoku Ware who saved Nii’s life from these killers

“In the year 2000, Nii Odai Ayiku IV, Nungua Mantse returned to Ghana and accompanied by Nii Okuajeman and some stool elders of Nungua paid homage to Nii Adotey Obour, at the then Ga traditioal council, the custodian of the Ga stool who gave him the blessing to assume his role as the chief of Nungua”, he added.

In the year 2000 agitation began over the legitimacy of Nii Odai Ayiku IV, as the chief of his area leading to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs delving into the matter and gave the Nungua Mantse the nod to continue to play his role as a chief in 2008.

On Saturday, October 24, 2009 news report by Daily Graphic revealed that an Accra High Court ruled that the National House of Chiefs re-insert Nii Odai Ayiku IV’s name into National House of Chiefs register as the chief of Nungua.

The ruling was triggered by an application brought by our Mantse to quash a decision by the National House of Chiefs in the year 2009 to expunge his name from the National register. Costs of two thousand Ghana Cedis was awarded against the National House of Chiefs.

Asafoatse Okuajeman said it is strange and paradoxical that 21 years after, a High court ruling news will be making rounds that the National House of Chiefs has expunged the name of Nii Odai Ayiku IV from the national register of chiefs.

The Nungua Mantse according to him has instructed his lawyer, to appraise himself with the the matter and take the necessary steps to bring sanity to the unending Nungua chieftaincy dispute.

He stressed that, “Odaifio Wellentsi who is masquerading as the Nungua Mantse is not the legitimate chief of Nungua because the current occupant of the stoool, Nkotoo Ablade Nii Odai Ayiku IV, Nungua Mantse is not dead and has neither been destooled nor abdicated his role as Nungua Mantse”.
