10 inmates of the Ashaiman District Police cell who tested positive for the corona virus infectious disease and are in isolation have been neglected by the health officials and Municipal Health Directorate.
The inmates, described as hardened criminals after confirmed positive were relocated to another cell in the Municipality, but have unfortunately been left unattended to for the past almost two weeks.
Vineyard information available to Ghanaianvoiceonline.com indicates that the medical team treating the inmates has ceased to visit them after his maiden attendance in the last almost two weeks.
Instead, he has left the medicines with the police who have no personal protective equipment to use, to administer to the inmates.
The police for the fear of being infected due to the lack of PPE also gave the medicines to the inmates to administer to themselves, leaving them to their fate.
Meanwhile, the Ashaiman Municipal Health Directorate which is yet to find a suitable place to quarantine the infected inmates for treatment as promised earlier is fully aware of the unfortunate development but remains unconcerned.
Physical spacing seems to be compromised in the municipality as satellite markets have become almost empty, resulting in the return of overcrowding in the conversational markets and other business areas.
The development reflects the 55 percent of the recorded cases being females and 45 representing males, as the confirmed cases have increased from less than hundred last week to over 200 as of Tuesday 19 May, 2020.
