Consider Party Interest Above Personal Concerns – Stephen Ayesu Ntim Urges NPP Members

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayesu Ntim, has urged members of the party to help unite the rank and file of the party towards achieving the party’s target of breaking the eight-year political cycle in 2024.

According to him, the best way to best break the eight is if members bear each other’s burden, forgive each other and work diligently to support the government’s efforts to ameliorate the plights of the Ghanaian people by appreciating the immense progress being made in the country under this government.

Mr. Ntim said this at the launching of a commemorative book in Accra on Baffour Osei Akoto, a founding member of the National Liberation Movement and Asantehene Chief Linguist.

The book, titled “Baffour Osei Akoto: a Royal Patriot and the Making of Ghana” forms part of week-long activity set aside to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the celebrated statesman, a cultural icon and astute politician, whose struggles and sacrifices led to the entrenchment of multi-party democracy in Ghana.

Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, further stressed that there are matters which can be resolved amicably if we prioritize the collective good of the Party and its goals adding that; the need for amicable solutions to their challenges in the party is more crucial than ever, given the herculean task of commitment to breaking the eight.

Given the exemplary life of the celebrated statesman, cultural icon, and astute politician, Baffour Osei Akoto, the NPP National Chairman described him as a selfless, patriotic and visionary leader that many forebears exhibited.

“During their time in the pre and immediate post-independence era, the political situation in Ghana was quite stormy. Those days one could be cast into prison without knowing their offense, courtesy of the notorious Preventive Detention Act”. Mr. Ntim noted.

“People like Baffour Akoto could have remained comfortably in the palace and let the politicians do their so-called dirty politics. He instead chose the more challenging option of helping to salvage the situation to secure true democracy for the nation”. He added.

Mr. Ntim reiterated that the philosophy and principles that Baffour Akoto, J B Danquah, S D Dombo, K A Busia, and several others of NPP’s tradition espoused have now become the foundation of their democratic society, which have been deepened by the tremendous leadership of former President Kufuor which are being continued by President Akufo-Addo.

He pointed out that the memory of people like Baffour Akoto must be a lighthouse that beckons party members to navigate toward patriotism for national development.

Mr. Ntim added that as the party paid homage to Baffour Akoto, the man through whose vision, charisma, respect, and devotion the great brains from all walks of life were assembled to give birth to the UP Tradition, which has today given birth to the New Patriotic Party, must all contemplate what they can also do to propel the progress of the country for the next generation.
