The inaugural ceremony of the newly Elected Assembly Members at the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly has been called off due to an attempt by the members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to increase government appointees from 4 to 6.
Newly Elected Assembly members became alarmed of the illegality the Municipal Chief Executive, MCE of the Area, Hajia Salma Mohammed Sani-Kuta opting for 6 government appointees instead of 4.
The uneasy situation has made some opinion leaders and security personnel at the Municipality appear stranded and confused as they seem not to understand what was really happening.
To this effect, the Assembly members have boycotted the ceremony as they demanded that the right thing must be done and not the usual NPP ‘mafia game’ to take what does not belongs to them.
The Minister of Environmental, Science and Technology, Hon. Prof. Frimpong Boateng who represented President Akufo-Addo could not find it easy to calm the situation.
The MCE, Hajia Salma Sani-Kuta was so confused that fell flat from the dainze when the crowd was hooting at her. After she was lifted up to be on her feet, she quickly replied the crowd “witches” in Hawsa to console herself with.
Subsequently, the Municipal Coordinating Director for the Assembly, Nii – Armah Ashitey announced the postponement of the inaugural ceremony to unknown date for further consultation.
