CIMAG Makes Key Appointments To Consolidate Gains

The Centre for International Maritime Affairs Ghana, CIMAG, has appointed Dr. Bismark Ameyaw and Dr. Kingsley Nketia Acheampong to the positions of a Board of Directors member and the Director of IT, Software Engineering and Data Development respectively.

Dr. Ameyaw who joined CIMAG barely a year earlier until his latest appointment was the Director of Research and Advocacy for the leading policy think tank and research hub for the maritime industry and international trade.



Presently perusing his second Ph.D. in the field of renewable energy technology and energy policy, Dr. Bismark Ameyaw is a professional member of the International Association of Energy Economics, IAEE, and the United States Association for Energy Economics, USAEE, and has been a reviewer to top-tier international journals.The energy analyst and data scientist through his investigative work has proposed mitigation pathway scenario for the purpose of achieving lower carbon-emission for all West African countries.

He has acquired immense experience from diverse fields supervising and helping funded research projects on maritime development, renewable energy, environmental sustainability, air pollution and climate change. With keen interest in Ghana’s maritime industry, his credentials are relevant to his current position at CIMAG. Dr. Ameyaw is a columnist for the Business & Financial Times, writing on the deployment of renewable energy technologies, maritime-related issues and entrepreneurship development with his most recent research publication entitled “Modeling the long-run divers of total renewable energy consumption: evidence from top five heavily polluted countries.”

Briefly speaking on his latest appointment, Dr. Ameyaw expressed appreciation for the recognition and reliance on him, and expressed some satisfaction at the accomplishments of CIMAG. “It has been a great honour to be part of the CIMAG Board of Directors. I am incredibly prod of our accomplishments over the period, and I’m confident in our future in CIMAG’s leadership as we continue to grow and expand our impact” he intimated.

Dr. Bismark Ameyaw joins a management team of experienced professionals in the persons of A.Y Jim-Fugah, (Chairman), Dr. York Abaidoo, (technical advisor), Rev. Gabriel Fiatui, (consultant), Danny Lord, (Co-Director), Yvonne Osei Tutu, (member), and Albert Derrick Fiatui, (Executive Director).



Highly skilled in software development, state-of- the-art data analytics and machine learning techniques from development to production levels, Dr. Kingsley Nketia Acheampong’s appointment as the Director of IT, Software Engineering and Data Development brings transformational drive to the objectives of the CIMAG. Having obtained B.S degree in Computer Engineering with Ph.D in Information Software Engineering, his research interests included Cognitive Modeling and Machine Learning for Natural Language Processing, Data Analysis and Analytics and Optimisation of Data Structures and Algorithms.

He has participated in a number of global data science competitions where he received 2nd prize for participating in ANZ data science competition in 2018 and and first prize in 2019. Dr. Acheampong had briefly served as an Applications and Software Engineer for NSS Huawei Technologies in Accra, from where he also joined Sun-Data Group as a Data Analyst and NLP Researcher in 2016.

The Executive Secretary of CIMAG, Albert Derrick Fiatui who expressed delight at the appointment of Dr. Ameyaw says he counts on his senior expertise in corporate services, research and policy development as well as his experience across global markets and deep knowledge of the Maritime and Energy terrain comes to hel p consolidate the gains being made by the think tank. Mr. Fiatui welcome Dr. Ameyaw and believe that his reputation and track record will inspire players in the industry.

Founded as an apolitical policy think tank, CIMAG focuses on the streams of the Maritime Economy, Maritime Security& Safety and the Maritime Ecology and Environment Protection. Given the critical role the industry plays in the growth of economies and international trade, CIMAG intends to provide the industry with a reliable platform for policymakers and other stakeholders to engage with players from the Maritime business community.

In addition, policy think tank aims to complement the International Maritime Organization, that convenes governments on shipping with industry involvement, including maritime safety and environmental issues.
It therefore positions itself as a catalyst for businesses, using its work to impact the industry by addressing Maritime and Aviation issues of international interest through extensive cooperation.
