Chief Urges President To Meet Volta Chiefs On The Trans-Volta Togoland Brouhaha

The Dufia of Taviefe Tsetse, Torgbui Komla Bele lll, says it is expedient for government to swiftly meet with Volta chiefs to fashion out means to curtail the surging sucessionists disturbances in the region before it escalates.

According to him, though he does not condone what is happenings, he believes two factors underpin the disturbing development: government’s refusal to conduct the mandatory referendum required to determine whether or not Volta Region will remain part of Ghana, and the neglect of region by successive governments, culminating in underdevelopment of the region.

He made the call at the 12th anniversary celebration of the reinstatement of Taviefe Sreme as one of the eight communities under the Taviefe Traditional Area of the Volta Region.

Torgbui Komla Bele lll who maintained that the group’s quest for independence might be predicted on the development gap, appealed to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to himself, take it upon himself and me et chief in the region to device means to nip the development in the bud, instead of security agencies arresting innocent people which he believes may aggravate the situation.

The Taviefe Tsetse Aholoe Queen, Mamaga Yayra Kotoku l, for her part described the sucessionists actions as a disgrace to Voltarians who are peace loving people. Mamaga Yayra Kotoku l sought the occasion to advice women to regularly examine their breasts to detect any defect for early treatment, as the globe observes World Breast Cancer Awareness month this October.

Leader of the youth, organisers, Prince Rockson in a brief background to the anniversary said, the reinstatement became necessary due to the cultural vacuum created by the incidental attachment of Sreme to Deme several decades earlier.

Prince Rockson was grateful that after seven years of preparation for which some colleagues who were instrumental have lost their lives, the programme has finally been observed. the celebration, he noted has restored Taviefe Traditional Area to its whole state as ever.
