4 Arrested For Stealing Chicken At Mallam Market

Four men were arrested Tuesday 2nd November 2021 for allegedly stealing live chicken from the Mallam Market in Accra.

The diligence of the Asafoatse for Lafa- Barima Nmarko and his Asafo group led to the arrest of the thieves who were subsequently sent to the Odorkor Police Station for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a video available to this portal the four young men were seen kneeling down with the stolen fowls in front of them whiles pleading for forgiveness to be set free.

It could be recalled that traders at the Mallam Market in Accra last week expressed worry over poor sanitation and harassment from persons they believe are land guards.

According to the traders, the situation had been persistent over the years and called on the authorities to come to their aid.

In an interview, the Market Manager, Nathaniel Beeman, said they are experiencing thievery and harassment from land guards.

“We are experiencing thievery in this market. And we are appealing to the general public and the authorities to come to our rescue.”

According to him, the land guards operating in the market are from Weija and its environs and are operating under the command of Nii Pampanku, claiming that the land belongs to him.

Mr. Nathaniel said thieves break into shops and do away with goods and the market women are not happy about the menace.

When contacted via phone, the Asafoatse disclosed that the ownership of the land is a matter been contested at the law courts and so won’t be able to speak to it but with respect to the accusations of intimidating the market with hand guards he explained that the chief of Lafa-Barima Nmarko who also doubles as the Asafoatse of Weija has nothing to do with the alleged harassment of the market women.

He believe of the court issue between Nathan and Nii Pamapanku, anytime a is crime is committed it is laid at his doorstep but was quick to add that his men and women are not thieves.

According to him the Market Manager, Nathaniel Beeman deliberately organized the women to soil his reputation of Nii Pampanku for reasons best known to him, he warned that they won’t sit and stare while the name of the Chief drugged in the mud over things he knows nothing about ,stressing that they will will sue to establish the truth or otherwise.
